Why did I decide to make my own website?

well i got an email last week from squarespace saying that they are going to charge me ~$300 to renew for another year.. so i figured why not make this a learning opportunity.

Why not use AI to make it?

I use AI a ton on work and other personal projects, so learning something from the ground using documentation felt like a refreshing idea. It’s also not to say that I didn’t use AI as a learning tool, but all of the code is written by hand.

This website feels really empty..

Squarespace only gave me 15 days notice, so not really my fault… working on moving things over. Not like anyone actually gaf abt this. I also have been trying to focus on getting a small workable version shipped and make incremental improvements, as building that muscle is good.

Tech Stack

This website is currently just a static site built using Astro, and services by the free cloudflare pages service which integrates with CI on GitHub. I plan to add a backend to do analytics tracking, hopefully using some of the database skills i spent so long learning in the spring 2026 semester.

I also have Vue installed, however haven’t found a usecase for JS just yet. I figure when i get to building out some more complex things, like a contact me form or some fun interactive components, I’ll get there. This is also my first ever website, so there is def a learning curve before I get started on those shenanigans.

I figure I’ll throw some images here to make this look more filled out.
